At Carbonado Farm we are proud to raise only Katahdin sheep and lambs. Katahdin sheep were developed in the United States, in Maine, and named after Mount Katahdin, the highest mountain in that state. They are bred for quality meat production, not wool. They do not produce wool but are a haired sheep that shed their winter coat in spring and summer.
Our free-ranging animals spend their lives enjoying grassy valleys, fresh water, and the clean air in Carbon County, Montana. In winter they are fed several varieties of delicious hay, most of it grown in our county. These are primarily alfalfa and alfalfa- grass mixtures.
We are proud of the fact that our sheep are never given growth hormones or fed antibiotics for growth. Our grass-fed animals are raised in a low stress environment, keeping them naturally healthy. For example, we lamb once a year in the spring, usually in March as nature intended. Our young lambs are less stressed by the spring weather and rarely get sick. This ensures a better, healthier end product to you, the consumer!
Our lambs are processed when they are in top condition to provide you with the best quality meat possible. Our lambs are processed at a U.S.D.A. inspected plant, ensuring a wholesome and quality product.
Along with lamb products we offer select breeding stock to other producers.
